Founding and Purpose

Ocean Township Action was founded by a local resident, identifying himself as a “teenager and lifelong resident of Ocean Township,” named Jonah Blumenfeld on October 8th, 2025.

According to its published statement, the group regards certain recent—or proposed—development projects in the township as driven by “outsider interests” that harm the town’s values and traditions, including large investment firms (notably BlackRock Incorporated and the Vanguard Group) marketing “luxury” properties to seasonal buyers and “NYC-based demographics.” The group argues that such development threatens local parks, raises property taxes, strains aging infrastructure, reduces open space, and erodes the identity and character of long-term residents’ neighborhoods, adopting anti-establishment, cultural preservationist, conservative-populist, and localist viewpoints.

Ocean Township Action states its goals as giving local residents — rather than outside developers or investors — more say in how the community is shaped. The group emphasizes support for local families, long-time residents, and preservation of community character and traditions for future generations.

The group encourages supporters to use the hashtag #oceantownshipaction on social media to raise awareness of its efforts.

Context within Ocean Township

Ocean Township has in recent years faced a variety of community debates, including concerns over governmental transparency, land use and open-space allocation, infrastructure maintenance, traffic and deer population management, and increased pressure for development.

In this context, Ocean Township Action emerged as one of several local grassroots organizations — others include groups focused on traffic safety, street redesign, and sustainable development.
